Sindh governor tenders resignation: media reports

KARACHI: Governor Sindh Ishratul Ibad Khan reportedly faxed his resignation to the President house on Saturday, according to various tv news channels.

Ishrat, belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), was shown at Karachi airport leaving for Dubai late on Friday amid protests by the party against the ongoing operation, which was claimed as a one-sided action against the MQM office bearers, being conducted by the Sindh government in Karachi.

Urban areas of Sindh, inclusive of Hyderabad and Karachi, observed a shutdown earlier on Wednesday after the arrest of a former MQM MPA, Nadeem Hashmi, who has been sent on week-long physical remand by an ATC, was reported on TV news channels.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, who was appointed on Dec 27, 2002, was also the longest-serving governor of the province.
