KARACHI: The second batch of Pakistan’s Olympic contingent will leave for London on Tuesday.
The first group comprising of the hockey squad left for the UK last week while a third batch will leave on Wednesday.
Those flying on Tuesday include swimmers Anum Bandey and Israr Hussain, along with their respective managers Fatima Lakhani and Zoraiz Lashari. Also in the contingent would be skeet shooter Khurram Inam who will be accompanied by his manager Javed Lodhi.
All three are wild card entries with Anum to take part in the 400m individual medley heats while Israr will take part in the 100m heats.
Along with the players and the managers would be Akhtar Nawaz (secretary) Mohammad Abid Qadri (security officer), Waqar Ahmed (medical officer) and Imran Ahmed Khan (IT officer).
Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) chief Lt. Gen (retd) Syed Arif Hasan is already in London to attend the meeting of International Olympic Committee. President of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association Syed Aqil Shah is head of Pakistan contingent.
On Wednesday, Pakistan’s track and field athletes Rabia Ashiq and Liaquat Ali will depart for London.
Apart from the successful men’s hockey team who have won three gold medals, three silver and two bronze, Pakistan have won only two bronze medals in the Olympics. Pakistan is sending 39 athletes to London but hockey, as always, is their only chance of a medal.—APP
